Paul Boehmke has again donated another wonderful piece of art to Intrepid Press.  “Pastel Sea” is a fused glass piece that features the beautiful essence of nature from trees to the sea. A drawing will be held for the piece to raise funding for Intrepid Press. Any donation is accepted for a chance to win.  If you would like to participate in the drawing for “Pastel Sea” and also support Intrepid Press, you can enter for the drawing at Amicus Books 413 'D' Street Marysville.

Writers group gives young artists a voice Print E-mail

The Intrepid Press StaffThere are, I think, decidedly few artistic publications whose mascot is a sock monkey, and whose issue titles (and concurrent themes) have spanned everything from purple cows to going green.

There are probably even fewer that have as auspicious a mission statement as providing "a platform for creative young people to share their vision of the world" in concurrence with the quirkiness mentioned above.

Intrepid Press is a 'zine (the word being adapted from "magazine," but, in particular, meaning an independent production usually a bit smaller than a mainstream magazine) for young artists — writers, poets, photographers, graphic artists — anyone who can make something that can be printed on a page.

The first thing you need to know about Intrepid Press is that it was not simply started to get kids off the street or keep them out of trouble. That may be a beneficial side effect, but it really exists to furnish a vehicle for young people to convey their ideas, their art, their "vision of the world."

So it should come as no surprise that if you're looking for an activity where your kids are kept busy by sharp-eyed taskmasters, Intrepid Press is not the place to take them...

The Brick Issue was released May 2, 2009.  The issue features a conglomeration of poetry, artwork, stories, lyrics, and a review of the Brick Coffee House Store located on D Street.  Much of the issue was inspired by the album "The Wall," a poem based on titles of songs from "The Wall" album was contributed by staff member Anthony Martinez.  The issue featured a profound collection of poems including multiple pages of Haiku by myself and my brother Ben Currier.  Cover design was by Amanda Martinez.  The issue displays work by workshop contributors who were Joe Burdick, Mark Bower, and Colin Ransom.  The Brick issue is yet another magnificent achievement of Intrepid Press.  To find where you can pick up a copy of Intrepid Press go to "where-can-i-pick-up-a-copy-of-the-zine" or if you would like to subscribe to Intrepid Press, you can do so by going to our fund-raisers page.

The Peach Issue of Intrepid Press was released just in time for the annual Peach Festival held in Marysville.  The Peach Issue complimented the Festival by incorporating recipes for those who picked up a few peaches and a zine.  The Peach issue also had references to famous peaches in culture like the marvelous peach from James and the Giant Peach.  This issue also had original artwork including a Illustration of the classically famous Peach from the Mario series.  The Peach Issue captured the true magnificence of peaches that is so easy to miss, so if you want to know what's happening and peachy pick up you own copy of the Peach Issue
